August 11 to 13: Peak of Perseids meteor shower
The Perseids are one of the more bighter meteor showers of the year.
They occur every year between July 17th and August 24th and tend to
peak around the 9th to 13th of August.
They are made up of debris from the comet Switf-Tuttle and are named
after the constellation Perseus as they come from that direction.
At the peak of the shower you could on a very clear night, expect to
see around 60 to 100 meteors in a hour form a suitable dark place.
